Workshop Updates: A Rare Fleischmann & Progress on Grandad’s Layout

It’s been another busy week at Platform Collectables, with some interesting locomotives coming through the workshop. One standout was a rare Fleischmann model, which came in with an unusual issue—its wheels were out of alignment, causing poor electrical pickup and running problems. After some careful adjustments and testing, we got it back to smooth operation. It’s always satisfying to bring these unique models back to life!

Progress on My Grandad’s Layout

Between repairs, I finally found some time to get back to work on my grandad’s N gauge layout. The first job was some much-needed cleaning—dust and dirt can be a real problem for track conductivity, so a thorough wipe-down was essential. After that, we managed a rough first run on the inner loop, which was great to see! There’s still plenty of work to do, but it’s exciting to finally make a start on bringing it back to life.

Restoring this layout means a lot to me, and I’ll be sharing more updates as we go. If you’ve got an old model railway that needs some attention, whether it’s servicing, repairs, or a full restoration, feel free to get in touch—we’re always happy to help keep these models running for years to come!
